6. Graphic Interface Description

The CoverOage Publisher main window will, by default, open the Page Editor window.

CoverPage Publisher has three view-modes between which you can switch by using the buttons in the upper right corner of the window.

  1. Page Editor - to edit the pages
  2. Publish - view-mode for publishing
  3. Preview - CoverPage Simulator - project preview mode

The area in the middle of the window changes depending on the CoverPage Publisher view-mode.

The top bar of the window contains:

  • Menu of the application (for Windows only, Mac OSX devices have the menu in a separate menu bar which is not part of the Publisher window)
  • View-mode switch (Page Editor, Publish, and Preview)
  • Standard window control buttons (close, minimize, maximize or restore window).

On the left you will find:

  • A list of the pages in your project and above them, buttons for adding new pages and categories.

Depending on the CoverPage Publisher view-mode, other interface features are displayed. Learn more about each environment below.

6.1 Page Editor Graphic Interface Description

If you have created a blank document using Create blank document at the beginning, you will be asked to add content (pages).

If your project already contains information, the interface shows:

  • Toolbar – on the left
  • Active page which you are currently working on – in the middle
  • The Inspector toolbar – on the right

The toolbar has a set of useful tools for adding multimedia and interactive features to your project. Read more about these tools under How to Add Multimedia and Interactive Features.

The Inspector toolbar is used to view and edit the page descriptions and the properties of the interactive features. The toolbar content changes depending on the selection or the highlighted feature.

Title - page name.

Description - a brief description of the page which is part of the Preview, in case you want it to be part of it.
Settings - after checking Include in Preview, the pages will be included in the preview along with their name and description.

The page editing mode allows you to easily move the pages, as well as section created above them, around.

Choose the Selection tool at the very top of the toolbar to activate the moving of layers. You can thus drag any interactive section across the whole page by simply clicking and holding it and adjust its size by clicking and holding its corner.

The Move tool (image of a hand at the bottom of the toolbar) allows you to move the page around. To activate it, simply press the spacebar on your keyboard as is the standard with Adobe Photoshop or Adobe InDesign.

Zoom tool zoom tool

The tool is used to zoom in or out of the page you are currently working on. To zoom in, leftclick the page using your mouse or scroll away from you using the mouse wheel. To zoom out,hold ALT and left-click the page using your mouse or scroll towards you using the mouse wheel.

Zoom in or out from a maximum of 800% to a minimum of 5%.

You can also zoom in or out of the page by using the “+” and “-“ signs on the bottom of the window. Right in the corner you will see the current percentage of the zoom; the Fit to Screen option is to the right of the “+” and “-“ signs. By clicking it, the page you are currently working on will adjust to the screen resolution. When you resize the interface of the window, the page will adjust to the current margins.

When using operation system OSX for zooming project use Command key as well.

The top bar of the window represents the x-axis, the left the y-axis.

Display mode display mode

Enables quick view for a page along with its sections, but without colour differentiation. The colour of the section that is currently displayed will become transparent. Only icons belonging to sections are visible. When dragging or clicking on the sections, only their thin black margin is visible. This way it is easy to adjust the section with an accuracy of one pixel.

To move from page to page in Page editor window and in Publish window as well use Page Up and Page Down keys on your keyboard. Pressing Home key sends you to the first page of the project.

6.2 Publish Graphic Interface Description

The interface includes:

  • On the left – list of the project pages
  • In the middle – the page you are currently viewing and editing
  • On the right – list of preview pages along with their name and description and cover page
  • At the bottom – a form to set the basic properties of the project and option to publish directly

6.3 CoverPage Simulator - instant preview for your projects

While working in Page Editor, it is possible to view how your project will look on a real device at any time by using CoverPage Simulator. Activate it by clicking Preview in the upper right corner.

The project will appear exactly the way it will look on a tablet, with all added multimedia and interactive features directly on the page you are currently working on. You can choose from iPad2, iPad 3 retina, iPhone 3, iPhone 4, Blackberry, HTC Flyer, LG Optimus, Motorola Xoom, Samsung Galaxy 10.1" or Samsung Galaxy 7" preview mode - just right-click with your mouse for Simulator menu.

The display of the digital publication is informative; it allows you to check your project and its content. To switch between the display options for various devices, right-click and choose your desired platform. It is also possible to rotate the device like a real tablet.
